East Finland Graduate School in Computer Science and Engineering
Computer science and engineering departments of the three universities
in Eastern Finland,
Lappeenranta University of Technology,
University of Joensuu, and
University of Kuopio
have jointly founded the East Finland Universities Graduate School
in Computer Science and Engineering, ECSE for short.
ECSE is based on the following principles:
- The main areas of expertice are software engineering,
intelligent systems, and data communication. For a more
concrete meaning of these keywords, see the descriptions of
research programs of the departments.
- The experts are shared - a student can get supervision in any
of these three universities.
- Courses eligible for graduate studies are transmitted by
videoconferencing
to the other campuses.
- In the annually organized
International Summer School in Novel Computing
intensive advanced courses are offered.
- Actually there are about 30 graduate students, and ECSE hopes to
find funding for some 10 new students each year. It is presumed
that with full time funding a student can achieve PhD in four
years. Funding will be conditional, depending on the progress
of studies and research. In July 1995,
6 students were selected.
