Seniors' Club
The number of elderly people is increasing rapidly in Finland, as also in other developed countries. The older generation is in danger of being left behind in the information society. However, this age group is a great potential resource, if they can be inducted into the world of technology. This requires both, adaptation of technology, and conditioning of the elderly.
The Seniors' Club -project at the University of Eastern Finland is founded on the experience gained from the successful Kids' Club -project. It is a technology club for elderly people, where, with the aid of univerisity students and researches, they can familiarize themselves with possibilities presented by application of technology. At the same time, the club works as a research laboratory for educational technology and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) -studies. The people are not actually divided into teachers and students, the seniors and the researchers are teaching each other. The seniors learn by doing, designing, trying and finding out, and by sharing knowledge and experience.
Seniors' Club collaborates with Vanhustyön keskusliitto (Central Union for the Welfare of the Aged)
