User-Centered

"realities of designing for older users mean that designers cannot simply rely on guidelines but need to involve older users in the design process"
(Dan Hawthorn, 2003)

A mutually supportive means of work, helps researchers gain better knowledge of the particular needs of senior citizens, and to acquaint themselves with their assumptions and attitudes towards technology. For this purpose, a truly co-operative atmosphere is more conducive than that presented by a clinical laboratory environment. The people actively working with ICT are usually young, intelligent and innovative, but they lack the tacit knowledge gained by age and experience. Elderly people have an abundance of experience and knowledge, that should be utilised by the information society. Also, the existing technology could be contextualized into the senior environment, and new technology created, by taking the seniors into the design process.
